Welcome to my blog!

These are my thoughts on some things. Maybe on social actuality, art, technology, games and other things. It can also work as some sort of public diary. I'll update this from time to time. Most recent entry will be at the top, the older one at the bottom :)

December 16, 2025

I can't believe 2025 is almost at its end, I feel like this was the most meaningful year of my life yet. It was not the easiest, but I learned so much.

I look back at me from 2023 and think "wow who even is this person" and I realize it was just less than three years ago... It feels like this time went by in a rush, but it also feels like every second of it has been carved in my mind and will stay there forever.

The brain is a computer and the soul is the user. I thought about this yesterday. I like this analogy but it still does not explain what the soul is, what happens to it after death, what's the connexion between it and the physical world, does it even exist, ect...

My experience with Linux

This year in October, Microsoft cut support for the widely used operating system Windows 10. Wich was, of course, the one I was using. This, all the agressive way Microsoft is pushing its new AI features, data collection and new OS Windows 11 onto everyone, kind of made me snap and want to switch to something else. I discovered Linux and all its distributions, an open-source OS that has risen in popularity lately. So naturally, I saw it as a good alternative to Windows. In this blog entry, I'll talk about my experience with this OS, its advantages, and what made me switch back.

The distro I chose was Linux Mint, supposedly the easiest to switch to as a Windows user. Since I was not completely ready to make the swtich, I decided to dual boot instead of just switching to Linux. That means that my computer has both Windows 10 and Linux installed on it. I am not a tech expert, but I know how to follow a tutorial and browse some documentation, and at the end of July, I managed to correctly setup the second OS and transfer my files there.

Day by day, I started to adapt to the UI and file explorer, though it was not too different compared to Windows 10. But then, this is the part where I talk about the first issue with Linux. It is not coded the same way as Windows, and cannot run .exe files. This can be a good thing, as no malicious .exe programs can run, but the thing is, Linux is not as popular as Windows, so you can't run all apps you would run on Windows. For example, I hat to give up Photoshop, CapCut, a few games I downloaded and had to use an app called Sober (which I recommend) to continue playing Roblox games with my sibling. Of course, I was aware of this before installing, and I had found alternatives for most (Like Krita and Kdenlive). But if I had, let's say, to download a program for school or work that did not run on Linux, I would have to setup a virtual machine, use Wine or just straight up go back to Windows. So, this was a worry I had.

Something I'd like to mention too, my PC would take so long to boot! Same for a lot of apps, the first time I launched them after booting, it would take one to three minutes to launch. I think this was an issue with my computer, but I was not able to fix it.

Another issue was the troubleshooting. I do not know if it was just a problem with my pc, but there was so much problem-solving for the most random stuff possible! I know nothing goes perfectly smoothly, but sometimes it was just too much, considering how hard fixing an issue is most of the time! Again, I'm not a tech expert, and I don't have that much free time, so this was the most annoying issue of all. As an example, the mods in Rain World didn't work anymore, when installing OBS I had a lot of issues, and my printer just fucking despised me. I swear, first it didn't want to connect, after way too much time I finally solved it, but then every time I printed recto-verso it would flip half of the pages upside down for no reason, I found no fix for this, and then the CUPS service decided to just give up, nothing worked anymore, even with the HP control app thing I found NOTHING worked. I hate printers.

The printer issue was the breaking point. All these issues combined just made my normal workflow completely explode. And I know I could have continued trying, maybe eventually I would have found a fix for my printer, but... It was just too much time I have to invest, and I also wanted to keep my sanity. So, yesterday, I made backups of my files, went to the repair shop closest to my location, and asked them to reset my computer to factory settings then restore a system image I made a few days before the switch. Soon I'll take a lisence to extend my Windows 10 usage to until next year.

It feels weird, now, to look at my desktop, like nothing had happened since July. I kinda miss some features from Linux Mint, and I have to get used again to a few things. Linux was not for me, really, but that doesn't mean it was a bad OS, on most machines it runs pretty fast, has no slop running in the background all the time and doesn't spy on you all the time or sell your data. Honestly, I don't think we can do much about the behavior of mega corporations nowadays. But I think that maybe, debloating your system manually or using a program made for this purpose might be a good idea. When I have the time to, I'll do just that!

December 3, 2025

I finally set up my blog page! Yay! I don't have much ideas for stuff I'll write here though.

Tomorrow I'll switch my computer back to Windows 10 and take the one year extension license. Before, I was dual booting Windows 10 and Linux Mint. Linux was pretty fun to use at the start, but there was just too many issues for me to resolve, and all that troubleshooting was really bleeding into my ever-shrinking free time. I guess I could make a blog entry about it, I have a lot of stuff to say about my experience, haha.
